Atelier - 31st May - 20th June
Atelier is a representation of an artist’s studio, (focusing particularly on studio’s since the artist’s death were opened to be viewed by the public) creating a space that exenterates the activity of the artist when in the studio working but at the same time comparing this to the voyeuristic approach to the zoo cam. This is achieved by only allowing the performance to be viewed via a monitor recording the interior space.
Over two weeks the structure of the room alters and develops as the performance goes on, resulting in the environment becoming completely overtaken by the materials. Once the performative element is complete the work can essentially be viewed as an installation.

Day 17 - Atelier
Upon returning home, I found that two out of three of the eggs had fallen to the floor of the cage. Their nest seemed to be squashed somehow, as I was uncertain whether or not they had kicked them out or they had accidentally fallen, I placed them back into the nest in the hope that they would continue to care for them.
Day 16 - Atelier
Today the birds were taken home as it wouldn't have been good for them to start incubating their eggs in the college. As well as this I placed the seeds in the sink into some of the empty jars, they had started to sprout. Later, after reading that the birds would benefit from some sprouted seeds, particularly as they are expecting I put some dry seeds into a jar and filled it with water to soak over night.

Day 15 - Atelier
Today I came in to find that the finches have laid their first egg! Although this is exciting news it means that tomorrow the finches will need to be moved away from the space as they will be unable to stay for the duration of the eggs incubation period. Both birds are fine and active and the shell around the egg appears healthy which is very positive. I have made sure that there is plenty of cuttlefish, spinach, seed and millet available. I am also preparing some sprouted seeds in a jar ready for them as well as this I plan to introduce meal worms to their diet when they return home. It is a shame that their time in studio D has come to an end but it's a fantastic ending to an educational performance.
